Five Guys – Chicago Ridge
Chicago Ridge
The Challenge
FACADE: A contemporary storefront facade was designed to give the restaurant a presence in the mall amidst the surrounding big-box retailers and mall service areas. Materials and colors were selected to maintain Five Guys corporate brand image while satisfying the Mall requirements for more upscale finishes. The composite metal canopy highlights the entrance to the restaurant. Twelve foot high storefonts allow greater visibility into the store and follow the standard of the mall. Red awnings, a standard exterior element in Five Guys restaurants, were re-designed to coordinate with the design. EIFS finishes the composition and integrates the design with the rest of the mall.
MALL ENTRANCE: A composite metal entry continues the exterior design at the mall entrance, surrounded by frameless glass storefront. Projecting out into the mall corridor, this element acts as both a portal to the restaurant interior and provides a visible location for signage at the end of an otherwise empty corridor. Five Guys standard signage was reconfigured to integrate with the design. Special attention to detailing was required to coordinate the finishes, signage and electrical requirements.
INTERIOR: Five Guys standard interior layout and finishes had to be modified to fit a space much different in size and proportion from their standard locations. Their signature open kitchen design was oriented to be full display to customers entering the store. Dunnage racks serve dual purposes of product storage and defining queuing aisles. Varied seating types were provided to break up the dining area and avoid a “cafeteria” feel. Counter seating was incorporated into the storefront design.
A patio was designed to add outdoor seating and to extend the energy of the space to the otherwise vacant area of the mall.
